Why Bizen Ware

Where can we start? Bizen ware has so many delightful elements that can bring more fun in life, not just artistically but practically also.

Japanese call it “the Seven Wonders of Bizen Ware.”

The Seven Wonders of Bizen Ware

1. It's extremely durable.

HOW: Because its firing process is very long (about 10-14 days), and the clay gets compressed at such a temperature — approximately up to 1250°C (2282°F) —, Bizen ware became known for its durability.

After the current firing method was established in the 14th century, Bizen ware was famous for its practicality as it wouldn’t break when it’s dropped.

2. It keeps your drink delicious.

HOW: Because of its dense structure that creates high specific heat, Bizen ware can maintain its temperatures longer than other types of ceramics. So your iced coffee keeps cool in summer and hot latte cozy in winter.

3. Creamier, silkier foam.

HOW: Bizen ware’s coarse surface gives it a nice, silky head of foam that lasts longer. Aside from making beer taste better, we’ve also noticed our latte tastes fantastic in a Bizen ware cup.

4. It changes alcohol from average to premium.

HOW: All thanks to the dense structure of Bizen ware clay that creates tiny pores activating the yeast in alcohol. Try leaving some wine, whisky, or sake in a Bizen ware and you’ll notice some aging effect, turning it mellower and fuller with stronger aroma.

5. You’ll love food even more.

HOW: The coarse surface also keeps food from sticking to it and reduces dehydration. In other words, it keeps your favorite food fresh!

6. Flowers last longer.

HOW: Bizen ware’s unglazed, tiny pores make it breathable. This helps plants in Bizen ware last longer because water keeps its freshness in it.

7. It ages as you use it.

HOW: Its bareness gives another unique characteristic to Bizen ware. The more you use it, the smoother it becomes while the edges of the rough surface wear off. Its colors would also “calm down” over time.
